Jesús De La Humildad Y Paciencia
This is the most recent addition to Holy Week in Cuevas del Almanzora. A group of young locals got together to turn a project into a reality. This is how Passion Saturday came about.
History and Tradition
The first image of an ambitious mystery float was blessed on 19th March 2023, Jesús de la Humildad y Paciencia, the lead image that quickly became popular among the religious community of Cuevas. The second image of this float is added in 2024, a Roman soldier. And finally, in 2025, the image of José de Arimatea is incorporated. All the images are the work of sculptor Juan Manuel Montaño Fernández. There are still many images to be added to this impressive mystery float.
It completes its penance station on Passion Saturday afternoon, departing from its headquarters in Las Maravillas, with one of the longest official routes. One of the most special moments is its departure, which must be done on the costaleros’ knees due to the size of the door.
The float is carried by costaleros on a carved wooden processional throne. They are accompanied by a procession of penitents dressed in burgundy and ochre robes.
The image of the Christ is worshipped all year round in the Hermitage of the Residencia Santa Luisa de Marillac.
